Beginnings are such a bitch. They're what grabs a reader. Flashy covers and stylish blurbs draw a reader to the book but if you can't grab them with the first few lines you've lost them.

With that much pressure riding on a story I shouldn't be so bent on nailing it, right? I shouldn't get uptight and check my blood pressure every five minutes. Too late.

After several months of developing and hammering on my newest WIP, building braided plot lines and interlacing the characters, I've come to that point where I need to start writing. This morning I retooled the opening - also known as False Start Number 5. Trying to hit that jumping point, that place where I drag a reader into a new and dazzling world is stretching my skin damned thin. How do I know what is the best place to jump in? Will it be a resonating point that hints towards bigger things to come? Guess I won't know until a few betas bite into and give it the old "Pee-U", or a hesitant thumbs up.

Well, time to stop complaining and start re-writing.
